Lake Agerisee, Lake Annecy, Lake Como, Lake Geneva (Lac Leman), Lake Constance (City of Konstanz on Bodensee), Lake Lucerne, Lake Lugano, Lake Maggiore, Lake Neuchatel, and Lake Thun (Wendelsee).

 

Lake areas are important because they are more easily defended since they can be only attacked from one side. They also provide a means of escape. Add in a river and they are even more defensible. Furthermore, they provide a water supply in abundance and the land about a lake is often very fertile because of all the nutrients brought down by the rains. Don't forget the Templars were very capable farmers as well as soldiers.
